Why we love it:

• Ceanothus hail from California (common name: Californian lilac) and there’s a great variety of cultivars, including the evergreen ‘Italian Skies’
• Ceanothus ‘Italian Skies’ is a vigorous variety with arching branches bearing narrow, glossy dark green leaves and profuse conical clusters of bright blue flowers in April and May
• Drought tolerant and ideal for a sunny border, it’s brilliant for attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators into the garden and can be trained against a wall

Caring for your plant:

• Each year after the plant has flowered, reduce the shoots by one third and apply a 5-7cm mulch
